Luge track upgrade

The Project

Skyline Rotorua is an internationally renowned adventure destination, and in 2018 a project was initiated to upgrade their advanced and intermediate luge tracks. Stratum provided planning, civil, structural and geotechnical engineering services.

Our Approach

Stratum was engaged as the local consultant alongside a specialist Skyline consultant outside of Rotorua who was engaged to profile the luge track redesigns.  The specialist luge design was then progressed to construction drawings to achieve the new layouts.  Stratum provided a range of inputs for this project including: survey control for the GPS controlled machinery operating on site, general topographical and site survey, geotechnical investigations and assessments, detailed design of the luge tracks, including track specific requirements such as retaining walls, bridges, ramps, underpasses, drainage works, Territorial and Regional Council consenting for the authorisation of the works and construction monitoring to enable completion of the track upgrade works to meet both client expectations and Council regulatory requirements.

Project Outcome/Solution

Upgraded luge tracks that meet Skyline’s expectations and provide a safe and unique thrill experience to Luge users.
