Maximising the ecological and cultural benefits of the Maketu Estuary

The Project

To redivert the Kaituna River to significantly increase the volume of water (particularly fresh water) flowing from the Kaituna River into Te Awa o Ngātoroirangi/Maketū Estuary in a way that maximises the ecological and cultural benefits.

Our Approach

Stratum are surveyors to the contract along side the Lead Contractor J Swap Contractors Ltd. We have been responsible for ongoing settlement monitoring, construction set out, volumes, quantities and as-built surveys throughout this 2 year project.

Project Outcome/Solution

The project will enhance the Maketu estuary, while creating 20 hectares of wetlands around it, resulting in a more sustainable and diverse ecological environment. Additional improvements to the Ford cut and boat ramp will improve the recreation capacity for the wider community.
